Heyishi Zhang (she/her) is a Chinese Canadian filmmaker interested in telling chaotic and complex stories about subjects beyond the margins. Her most notable project is Gay Mean Girls a 2-season autofictional digital series she created/directed. Both seasons premiered at TIFF Next Wave, and was distributed by Shaftesbury and Revry. The project originated from her viral short film (same title, 2015) with over 4 million views online. Heyishi has been nominated for 3 Canadian Screen Awards for Best Web Program, Best Writing, amd Best Directing, and received accolades worldwide. Heyishi is a Telefilm Talent to Watch recipient, and was recently directed/produced the second season of Law and Order Toronto: Criminal Intent's digital content. Her work has been showcased on Global TV, Elle Canada, Rookie Mag, SheDoesTheCity, Leste, and more.

In Heyishi's body of work, she's interested in themes of alienation, identity, discrepancies between public and private life, and how womanhood is constructed.
